This 4-year program is being implemented with PMPML and will be extended to cover the metro lines as well. It should help not only in de-carbonization but also improve the air quality and reduce traffic congestion.
This program will “nudge” citizens to use public transport instead of personal automobiles.
Interim Report: Behaviour Nudges For Sustainable Transportation
Vision
The vision for this program is to increase the mode share of sustainable transport modes in the Pune Metropolitan Region to 40% by 2040.
Description
A pilot with PMPML is being undertaken in 2023-24. Examples of experiments that will be conducted are
(i) “Information” Nudge: Improved signages at bus stops, improved information about bus routes and frequency.
(ii) “Frequency” Nudge: Improved frequency on identified routes from one every 30 mins to one every 15 mins for the duration of the experiment.
Objectives
The overall goal of the program is to increase the ridership for identified routes of PMPML and the Metros– Maha metro and Pune Metro. The key objective being to improve the adoption of sustainable transport modes.
In addition, the program will quantify the impacts of various ‘nudges’, and identify “improvements” in service that are proven to be most effective. This will enable the transport providers (PMPML, Mahametro) to take an informed decision and focus on improvements that are proven to be the most effective.
